Amboseli National Park lies in southern Kenya, not far from the border with Tanzania, covering an area of about 392 square kilometers. Its trademark is the magnificent view of snow-capped Mount Kilimanjaro, which rises majestically above the savannah on clear days.

The park is characterized by vast open plains, dry salt flats, and lush swamps. These swamps are fed by underground springs supplied by meltwater from Mount Kilimanjaro. Even in the dry season, they create green oases in the midst of the otherwise dusty savannah. Here, dusty dryness and surprisingly water-rich habitats meet directly – a fascinating contrast that makes Amboseli truly unique.

Besides its impressive landscapes, swirling dust devils, endless horizons, and the special light conditions shape the experience. The park offers spectacular photo opportunities, especially at sunrise and sunset when golden light floods the plains and Kilimanjaro glows in soft pastel colors.

Amboseli is world-famous for its huge elephant herds, with mighty bulls often displaying impressive tusks. Thanks to the open plains, these animals are easily spotted.

Besides elephants, you’ll find lions, cheetahs, hyenas, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo, giraffes, and numerous species of antelope. In the swamp areas, hippos and water birds thrive. Birdwatchers will be delighted: over 400 bird species have been recorded here, including herons, pelicans, grey crowned cranes, and birds of prey.

Smaller animals such as jackals or warthogs also provide exciting safari moments. The breathtaking backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro makes every encounter even more spectacular.
